The Family Conservancy

Altrusans will work at The Family Conservancy on at least six occasions (probably Saturday mornings) during the Club year.  Our activities may include:  preparation of toy buckets for use by parents/educators, clerical work, recordkeeping entries, newsletter preparation for bulk mail, child care during parent classes, reading to children, and more.  We will also collect clean, used business clothing at two meeting dates per year (spring and fall) for their participants to have for job interviews.

Gordon Parks Elementary Charter School

Altrusans will work at Gordon Parks School on at least six occasions (probably Saturday mornings) during the Club year.  Our activities may include:  preparation of bulletin boards, room setup, help with registration packets and process for fall student enrollment, help with Teacher Appreciation ideas and projects, help with food and reception during student concerts, programs and parent meetings, reading to children, and more.

The Upper Room/Swope Corridor Renaissance

Altrusans will work at the Upper Room on five Saturday mornings during the Club year.  Our activities may include:  sorting donated books, reshelving and labeling books, processing summer applications, helping with summer registration day, filing, mandatory reports, and more.

Operation Breakthrough / St. Vincent’s Family Center

Altrusans will work at St. Vincent’s on two Saturday mornings during the Club year:  to host the Valentine’s Party and, in December, for the stocking stuffing and package wrapping project.  We will continue to participate in the Head to Toes holiday family adoption project.

Catherine’s Place/Friendship House

Altrusans will work one day to help with spring/summer/fall cleaning and other projects and have an introductory tour of this midtown Kansas City residential substance abuse program solely for women and their children.

Dictionary Project

We will sponsor two or three schools for this “dictionary for all third-graders” project. We will be present on Dictionary Day at the schools for the dictionary distribution.

Elmwood Cemetery

We will work one Saturday morning at Kansas City’s oldest cemetery, resting place of many Kansas City history notables.  We will help with cemetery cleanup or assist with volunteer support during the annual run through the cemetery in October.

Harvesters—Community Food Network

We will work one Saturday morning at the food bank on sorting, repackaging or other projects.

Hillcrest Ministries

We will work one Saturday morning in December to wrap gifts for current resident families and families in class programs at this high-accountability program for homeless families.
